I'm so excited to be moving house in a month and three days today that I've been scouring the charity shops for wonderful retro and vintage finds to fill my new house with! This time I want it to be more of a home than a house as I'd like to stay at this one longer than 6 months or at most a year. So I've been spending my free days looking for fabulous kitchen pieces and anything that generally catches my eye as i can see myself been broke this summer and spending a lot of time in! I picked up this retro magazine rack in Debra for £2 - I thought it would be fabulous to hold all my Vintage Life Magazine, Bizarre Magazine and maybe even a few books! This bowl was in Bernardos for £2.49 I picked it up but then put it back down thinking I may want something else more in another shop as you can see i went back and bought it! This fabulous burnt orange vintage case was £2.99 from PDSA! It's wonderful and will soon be added to my grey, teal, emerald and red costume cases for shows. I found this wonderful tropical parrot covered jug in Oxfam for £1.99!! that's the cheapest thing I've ever found in Oxfam as I usually avoid it due to there ridiculous over priced stock! and the last piece is this wonderful cup and saucer set! 4 wonderfully retro pieces that were my second purchase of the day1 I adore them! the pattern is amazing and the lady behind the desk was a doll and told me about the Vintage fair for Cancer Research in shirley on the 25th June! I was going to post the flyer up but i don't seem to have a copy of it!! These are two bad quality imaged of last weeks Cancer Research finds!! I'm so happy with them and can not wait to move now!
These were a few things I saw in a few charity shops today! I wish I had the money to buy it all! I did however pick up 6 glasses and a jug for my new house and shot glasses! I wish I'd bought the decanter too! If it's still there next time I go I may have to see how much it is... darn these charity shops I just can't help myself.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending the evening in Rachel Spiveys Studio! I felt terribly lucky as it was like being in the most wonderful vintage store mixed with a Parisian boudoir! The studio was wonderful and Rachel was so lovely, I got ready and then spent the rest of my time in awe of everything! I then found that Rachel is like my book soul mate, we have so many of the same books and she even pulled out two I'd probably like! and flicking through she was so right, they're already on my amazon wish list. Finally it was 7:30 and we began the class I posed for three five minute poses, a 15 minute pose and a final 30 minute pose! All of which i enjoyed greatly. The ladies drawing totally blew me away, they all had different styles but all of them made me look amazing .... thank you ladies! and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I was surprised how still I could sit and the fact I didn't talk for an hour too was quite the surprise! The idea of Pencils & Pin Ups is a wonderful one! It's a lovely, laid back evening of drinking wine eating nibbles and drawing lovely ladies! Veronika Cupcake modeled after myself and it was so much fun to watch I wish I'd taken a sketchbook and pen with me, well next time i know too! We did have a rather funny moment during the session when the Tesco delivery man came to do a late night drop and saw myself posing in pasties in one room and Veronika in a nighty in the other! Poor man he must have thought something very dodgy was going on above the offices at night. tee hee. we all had a laugh about it. Overall it was such a lovely evening and i look forward to going back to draw next time1 though I'd happily model for them again!!
Finally Ma Vamp sent me through at least a few of the images! which finally means i can write my Blog about the wonderful Showcase on the 6th May! The line up was wonderful: Kitty Liquor Tiffany Beau Bettie Wishes Daisy Stays Darkteaser Constance Peach and a very wonderful side show act known as The ride of the Valkyrie who were grotesquely fabulous! Their dentist chair act was wonderful and I must say it was like car crash viewing, I couldn't look away it was marvelous! I won't spoil their act because you should all go and see it for yourself but it's the best side show couple act I've ever seen! Tiffany and I were clinging on to each other in fear someone was going to get hurt. And how could I not mention the wonderful, the marvelous, the spectacular, compere extraordinaire The Wonderful D! who mentioned a couple .... of hundred times the lack of blogage of her on my site! I must put a stop to this because D is the most wonderful compere I've had at a show. It's hard to find a good compere who can whip up a crowd and keep them entertained in between acts and D always looks the part! very sharp D! I promise there will be more picture when Ma Vampy sends them! I was also lucky enough to meet the beautifully stunning Kitty Liquor! She performed her Bettie Page tribute and then a Rockabilly act [the costume in the picture is from her rockabilly act]. Both were stunning it was so hard to take your eyes of her, Kitty is quite the little mover. She's a rising star and one to be watched in the Burly community, with her wonderful moves, great backing tracks and wonderful costumes. Kitty was a complete doll to chat to during the show and hopefully a wonderful burly friend for time to come! Of course one of my favorite burly kittens was performing! The insatiable Tiffany Beau, Tiffany and I met at when I had to organize the line up for a Bizarre Magazine meet up in Birmingham and have stayed in contact ever since! I'm pleased about this as she;s adorable and always good fun at a show. Tiffany performed my favorite act of her's 'Diamonds are a girls best friend' and then a new one 'Lady Tiff' which was blooming fabulous! the costume was by far the most wonderfully made costume I've seen in a long time, that has a lot of time and effort spent on it! Well done sugar it certainly was worth all the effort!! My lovely burly friend Cherry Stone performed a lovely act I hadn't seen before called 'vintage' and another act I have had the pleasure of seeing before 'Absinth Fairy'. I wasn't lucky enough to catch the first but the fairy routine was great! even if the lovely Miss. Stone forgot her giant spoon it didn't detract from the performance at all. I also had the pleasure of meeting Daisy and Constance. Daisy performed the funniest Burlesque act I have seen in an awfully long time! It was so fabulous I must have told everyone about it! But I can't spoil it because you have to go and see it! have to! As I don't have any more photos currently I thought I'd stick on up of all of us to comment on the fact that Darkteaser's act were spectacular as always with her massive fans and new Grey Grind! and Bettie Wishes!
Bettie did a kitsch, cute and fun 50's themed washing routine. Her costume was well put together, bright and fun and her props were so well thought out and put together even down to her monogrammed towels on the washing line! She was such a doll to meet and I hope i get to perform at a show alongside her again very soon! This was one of the best Showcase's I've performed at if not the best! the crowd was playful and fun, loud and the place was full! Mister Charles was there with the lovely Marie the painted lady! D gave us a lovely roll call and gave me two fabulous introductions before my acts and the line up was my favorite to perform with so far! Thank you ever so much DT and all the lovely ladies and audience who made it one hell of a great night!! My favorite hat has been getting its wear out yet again! and as you can see from the image above! and the two from my blurry blackberry curve below I got glasses!! I adore them! I'm also even more please as they cost £25 bargain! and now I can see and don't have to use contacts all the time..... now I just want more glasses!! next some black cat eye glasses I think. Unfortunately I haven't received the images from the Showcase yet so that's a blog yet to come but I do have two blackberry pictures! lots more to come 39 more images in fact!!
I figure if men do that random 'fantasy football team' and you can pick on PC game and Xbox games and what not your dream team line up! Then I was going to create my all time great line up of burlesque performers that I would adore to share a stage with! I decided there should be rules as i can't pick everyone that would be absurd and also would account to a show lasting at least a month! So the rules are simple no more than 6 performers including the acts you'd want them to perform at the 'fantasy' burlesque show. Dream Burlesque Show Line Up My first dream line up burlesque artists would of course be the wonderful, the beautiful, the sensational Miss. Banbury Cross! I must admit I haven't had the chance to see her act in person but from all the video's I constantly watch I'm dying to see her! At my show I'd have her new Marilyn Monroe inspired Diamonds are a girls best friend act. after watching the LBW closing Gala video I knew that would be one for the list. The second act would have to be her cherry on the cake, her signature Champagne Act! Banbury would have course have to open the show as she'd be a total show stealer with her neo - Marilyn looks and playful moves! Second up, well who else but the enchanting, cheeky, beautiful housewife from Yorkshire! The one, the only Anna Fur Laxis! I have to say, I think myself very privileged as the first time I had the pleasure of seeing one of Miss. Fur Laxis' acts was at the opening night of The Candy Box in Birmingham, still the only incredible burlesque show in Birmingham to this day! Anna wow'd the crowd and tickled their fancy with her 'Time for Tease' routine that had us all cheering and giggling all the way through. The two act's I would have Anna perform would be one act I have wanted to see since she debut it, her Bettie Page Tribute! the second would have to be Axe's of Evil! She'd be a show and heart stopper this lady! We're half way on the fantasy dream burlesque line up, so my third choice is the insatiable Dirty Martini! Also another performer I was lucky enough to see at The Candy Box.... oh how they spoilt us! And because Miss. Martini is so well know I'd have this dame pick the two acts she'd want to do!! though secretly I want her to do her spiderweb act so I can be one of the pair of hands behind the web!! The fourth lady on my dream line up would have to be without a doubt the fabulously talented, [used to be] blue haired wonder! Bam Bam Blue! This lady astounds me with her new costumes and concepts! she's a joy to watch and seems to be one of the loveliest ladies in the industry! and unlike Dirty getting to pick her routines! I must put my foot down with Bam Bam because I'd want your Fortune Teller routine, simply for the costume alone! as i haven't been lucky enough to see the act yet and of course Miss. blue's Unicorn routine!! This lady is defiantly someone I secretly burly stalk on facebook .... not so secret anymore of course! My fifth or second from last if you'd like to put it that way would have to be! Miss. Hotcake Kitty! I came across Miss. Kitty online and was completely smitten with the kitten! One English rose who defiantly has a gift for beautiful burlesque costumes and the feminine mystique! The two routines I'd like from Miss. Kitty would be 'Goddess' and her cheeky balloon pop! She's be the creme de le creme of my wonderful Burlesque Victory Sandwich of a show! The sixth and final burlesque spot of my dream line up burlesque show! this was a hard one because there are so many performers out there! I didn't know who to pick! but it came down to crunch time!! So I chose Ginger La rouge! She is one doll I've only been privileged to have seen once. I'd want her to perform her 'Walk like a Panther' and 'Bitter Queen'. I adore both acts and would want Ginger La Rouge to be added to my fantasy burlesque show! Now if you also were spoilt by The Candy Box you'll all know they had a wonderful team of ladies known as The Candid Heels! Well my fabulous dream team line up would of course need their own 'Candid Heels' and unlike the line up which was awfully hard to pick, the team of Candid Heels were most defiantly not! I knew who I wanted straight away! Although I'm pretty sure I've forgot a few people it took me ages to figure this out, many a bus journey, walk home and daydreaming at work! So for now this is my all time dream team line up for a Burlesque show! My Fantasy Burlesque Show!
I hope your all looking forward to a full blog post on my last show at The Showcase in Coalville with some wonderful burly ladies and one hell of a fabulous audience! but until then here is a mini blog! Today I finally booked my eye test and picked a fabulous pair of glasses which I shall post a picture up of when I get them back with the lenses in of course! I'm terribly excited which is unusual as I'm sure all glasses don't suit me, but I adore these ones! I found a wonderful vintage cat eye glasses store online but the ones I liked had sold out .... typical! Finally bought a pack of hair rollers to start styling my hair recreating the styles from my 'Style me Vintage' book! I have a feeling I'll need at least another pack if not two. There were 10 or more of these 'retro' belts in a charity shop I popped in to today sadly I restrained myself and bought three! I shall be wearing one of the blue belts with my Lily Green Vivien of Holloway dress for my friends child's christening. Anna Fur Laxis is wearing the Lily Green circle dress I bought from VoH and next to it are the bronze heart lady dragon Melissa's I have that I've been waiting to wear out! I feel this all makes a wonderful outfit with a blue belt and if it's a little cold my 50s style white wrap coat. I'm rather excited for this christening. One of many finds in the charity shops this evening! There was also two vintage swimming costumes, 2 vintage tea sets and lots of belts!! I shall leave you with another music video... I seem to be leaving more and more time between blog posts! it doesn't help when my laptop won't connect to the internet at my house! oy vey Anyhow yesterday I had a wonderful day in London, I took the train down from Moor St. to visit the fabulously kitsch Vivien of Holloway store on Holloway road! Despite the fact I've lusted over Vivien of Holloway dresses for years I'd never got the chance to visit the store, usually when I go to London the people I go with aren't that interested and we always have too much planned for the day. I'm ever so pleased I made it down as I snagged two gorgeous swing dresses, one at 50% off the Lily Green hncd and then 25% off the Leopard hncd. I told myself I'd only buy one but after both looked so pretty and after queing for ages to try them on I decided to treat myself to both!! A rather lovely lady in the changing room next to me in VoH told me about another little vintage store on Holloway road, so as soon as I'd bought my dresses I scooted on over to check it out! Thank you friendly lady! After my little shopping jaunt I'd found out from my lovely burly friend Roxanne that there was a wonderful 50's American Diner in SoHo. It took me a while to find but it was lovely walking round in the sun and a bus tour director pointed me in the right direction. I saw it a mile off when i got on the right road with the neon sign, 'Ed's diner' such a kitsch, 50's, very cool milkshake and burger bar! I took a seat at the counter and flicked through the songs on the mini jukebox. As I was in such a fabulous diner I had to order a burger and fries which of course I had with a strawberry milkshake!! It was possible the most amazing milkshake I have ever had in my life so far, well done Ed's expect me back again! any excuse! Overall a very fun and wonderful day in one of my favorite cities! I then went over to Lau's where we spent hours going over new acts I could perform, watching loads of youtube videos and listening to songs on spotify. I am now officially addicted to this song and the way the video looks naturally! Beyonce's little nod to Bettie Page makes me extremely happy!
