I don't seem to be keeping a proper update on my blog!! tut tut! tumblr seems to be taking over my social networking time! I picked up some bangles for my Carmen Miranda act! Hair!I've been watching some wonderful tutorials on youtube as I need a few new ideas for hair styling! I'm bored of the victory rolls I can do, pin curls and such! so wanted to try something new ..... I need togetracticing! Setting time aside to practice routines is something I find quite hard but recently I've managed to gran an hour or so every couple of nights to practice! the last week it's been my fan dance routine! and generally just working with my fans to get them to move the way I want ant cme up with new ways to make my fan dance interesting and not like every other Burlesque artist. Now that I've swapped jobs and have to wear a uniform I've started wearing all my lovely underwear ...... not that I own anything that isn't silk, satin or similar! I've decided it's like my little super power under my cothes! like Superman having his outfit under his suit with the big S, I strip off to reveal some seriously lovely underwear! Due to the horrid weather recently I was very pleased to get to wear my beautiful fur out! well I think that's all to update ... apart from the fact I'm terribly annoyed with Collectif! as I ordered dress on the 10th they didn't hesitate to take my money and then never sent me a dispatched email! and even after emailing 3 times and messaging on the website twice it took a post on terfcebook wall for them to PM me and tell me to contact them on the 29th if it hasn't arrived!! 19 days after the purchase... with the £30 gone out of my account,. Nedlss to say I won't be ordering from them again!! It's such ashame as I'd heard such good things.

After getting up at 4:30 am for work ,...... no I didn't realize this hour existed either till last week! I decided to stay up and actually get some of the crafty jobs I needed to finish!! I started with my shell bra for my Venus DiMilo / Mermaid based act. Thi ct has been in retirement for a while but recently was requested for a show in September so I'm dusting off the shells and adding a whole lot of sparkle! watch out giant shell you shall sparkle soon enough too. I've also just started a pearl thong to go along with tis act too! and watch ut for the wonderful pasties and treats my wonderful sponsor Helen Bach is whipping up for me! following the shells and thong i finally finished my 'I dream of GEne' Bra ... so the bra's finished, the music's ready .... I just nee to make the rest of the costume!! and on that note we'll end with a picture of my new thong for my balloon pop as the old one was ruined!!
hopefully soon images to show you of pieces of my Carmen Miranda Tribute Act!! which I have ben working on secretly for months! Sadly Pencils and Pin Ups was cancelled tonight so I didn't get to go along in my new dress I bought with my new sketchbook and see the adorable Eliza Delite! or my favorite kitten Rachel! I did however do an extra hour at work ,....... 11 days in a row of work and counting! Last Sunday however was my last day at my old day job, I'd been there for almost 2 years I celebrated by buying myself sunflowers - 75p on sale! Thank you Tesco 'every little does help' Then before my shift yesterday I bought a new dress for Pencils and Pin Ups £20 reduced from £70! bargain! and popped in to shared earth as they had little organza bags for 62p each on sale - nice little bags to keep my pasties safe and in a pair at shows. As ever with me I didn't need this but I wanted it!! it's so pretty and will be useful for carrying my sketchbook to uni come September I'm tired of having to carry it around and try to find a carrier to stick it in when it's raining or well snowing! My day was made in the simpliest of ways! Someone was throwing away this mirror on my road - it's a large oval mirror with a wooden back and silver chain! I got it for free! also while in the stationary store I got sucked in and bought 4 mini canvases, tags and a new notebook! - the mini canvases and tags I bought because in my head I thought 'soon I'll go to a vintage fair or flea market and actually sell some of the vintage pieces I have' we'll see if that ever happens! to finish I saw these the other week and thought they were very cute, kitsch and tiki! I may go back and buy one!
Yesterday evening I had the absolute pleasure to perform at the debut night of 'Miss. Hilton Presents: Burlesque' at the art house cafe in Worcester. Sadly I had to run off after my act but what I did get to experience of the evening was wonderful! and it seems this wonderful burlesque event can only get bigger and better! I also got the chance to meet the stunningly pretty and delightfully wonderful Miss Eliza Delite! She was an absolute kitten and had a good old chat with me backstage! Her costumes were unbelievable as well as her Collectif dress which I am still jealous of!! If you would like the chance to meet Miss. Delite she shall be posing at the fabulous event Pencils & Pin Ups that I posed for a few months ago!! Hopefully I shall be along to draw so pop to the site and get yourself a ticket now for next Wednesday! I also had the chance to meet a newcomer to the scene Cadillac Arrest who was an absolute sweetheart with a wonderful kitsch costume for her tea act, Alice Noir a firy red head with a touch of glamour and Laura Mai! a singer who took my breath away, as well as one of my old favorite burly Kittens Satine DiMonte who I haven't seen at the same event as myself for quite a while! far too long as I'm concerned Miss. DiMonte!! It was great to finally meet Claire too the promoter and all round fabulous lady who'd set the whole event up! she did an amazing job and i just hope she wants me for another event!! and if we're lucky in this venue... oh did I mention this was just my changing room? yes that's right, all the burly girls got changed in this gorgeous, vintage, reformed church! I felt god trying to punish us while we put our pasties on .... he didn't win! Isn't it wonderful, the lovely lady on the bar said 'I've got a room you can change in but it's full of chairs' so there's Claire and I thinking - 4 by 4 room with stacked extra chairs .... Oh no it's a giant hall with stage, piano and organ!!1 I was stunned to say the least. apart from having to run for the last train it was a splendid evening had by all, packed out venue, wonderful burly kittens, great magician and overall a fabulous promoter!! what a great night!
I was thinking about all the unwritten rules the lovelies of the burly world follow and decided to write the ones down that I could think of and follow! - Do your research: whether it's picking your stage name, creating a new routine or gaining inspiration do a little research. Get on the internet, scour the forums, check blogs and put that extra effort in. I'd even go as far as saying before you start Burlesque, read books on the art, watch movies [the old classic are the best] and youtube it to death! MoB have a fabulous forum and network it's another good place to start. - The Courtesy email If you are planning on using a similar prop to another performer, song, or costume piece then it's always best to send the 'courtesy email'. It's just the polite and right thing to do and I guess it covers your back because it gives them the chance to voice their feelings and concerns and if they are rude enough not to respond they can't say you never told them? - Stealing and Fraud However as a follow on from the 'courtesy email' you should NEVER and I mean NEVER steal someones whole concept/ costume or routine! This is frowned upon and should never be done and of course your version will never be up to the standard of the original. You will gain no respect of other burly kittens and kats and promoters won't hire you for their events and shows. - Make the effort Before attending a show check out the line up and do a little research, check if performers, comperes or the promoter have websites / blogs / facebook pages and youtube videos. Take the time to look in to their work, it adds an extra nice touch to turn up to a venue and be familiar with everyone and their work. -Try not to offend anyone It's bad manners to bad mouth a burlesque performer or a performers routine to another burlesque kitten backstage - whether it be a kitten from the show your at or a show you've recently performed at. It doesn't make your acts look any better it just makes you look a bit of a bitch and gets kittens wondering what you'll say about their routines later or to others. The same with promoters and venues, you never know who knows who so don't go shooting off your mouth at any opportunity - I've had my fair share of awful venues and less than satisfactory promoters but I make sure I only tell my main burly network of friends. [as Danielle pointed out and I'm grateful she did of course if a promoter regularly doesn't pay performers or treats them badly! word should be passed on - if you've taken a personal disliking to someone that shouldn't necessarily be passed on to everyone] - Be friendly to everyone back stage Remember the stage kitten / maid will be in charge of your props and costume so don't be bossy or look down on them, there helping you out. Be kind to newcomers as well as established performers everyone deserves the same respect and we were all in the same position once - share your knowledge don't keep it to yourself like a secret others don't deserve to know. I'd also like to point out like the wonderful Ginger La rouge on her blog post no idea is truly original, someone somewhere has done it before. Icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and yes kittens even Katy Perry are free for the pickings you can't claim the idea to be all yours especially if your copying a costume from an icon or an entire 'dance' routine. From my experience I have sent out the courtesy email and have never gotten a reply, I find this terribly rude but what can you do.
I'd like to thank Luli Blue, when I was a newcomer she met me at one of my first shows and shared all her insider tips - including how to make my own fans and website! and Millie Dollar was a doll at a show last year sharing a few tips and hints! I won't be the first or the last to admit I've not enjoyed someone's routine, but you'd be kidding yourself [even I would be] if you thought everyone loved everything you do and I have spoken about it with my close friends and burly friends - it's not that professional but some ladies you can fully trust! Really this was just a little blog of the tips ad bits I've picked up over the last few year.... it's not set in stone it just how I see it personally. I spent the day yesterday in one of my favorite cities London! to watch tennis at Wimbledon. Due to running late that morning I forgot my bleedin' camera so had to take photographs on my blackberry. The highlight of my whole day, maybe even my whole week was seeing Nina Kate on the tube! and then moving to sit next to her... if she hadn't have been listening to her iod I may have tried to say hello ... doubt I'd have been able to though! Nina is the creator of Jane Doe Latex, the most beautiful latex I have ever been lucky enough to own! .... Remember the bow belt I posted about a few blogs ago! Anyhow I did get some sneaky .... almost bordering on stalkerish pictures which I have shared above. I guess we should get back to the tennis! Of course I had some pimms I mean it wouldn't be Wimbledon without it and proceeded to sit down and watch a doubles men's match on Court one which ended up from being a 'I'll just watch 40 minutes' to being there for two and a half hours! Worth watching though. I also went back later to watch the end of the ladies doubles which were a lot more fun and tongue in cheek! Even more exciting I finally had a reason to wear my Vivien of Holloway 'Lilly Green' Dress!! I was so happy, i've been waiting since I went to London in May to buy it to have a chance to wear it and it went so perfectly with my Melissa silver flats and Blue Vintage belt I picked up at a charity shop a few months back! I also finally made the cushion I've been meaning to make for ages! I'm terribly please if I do say so myself .... which I do! and as Evolution were having a clearance sale I bought a few things ..... it came to under £5 .. happy, happy, happy
